Whether you just want to chill on one of the many stunning white sandy beaches or party the night away in lively St Lawrence Gap,take a trip to Barbados and you won't be disappointed. It's only a short 8 1/2 hour flight which makes it a lot more appealing for those of us who don't like longflights, also making it easier to get over the dreaded jet lag. The way of life is extremely laid back, and after a visit to a local rum shack where the local firewater is served by the bottle with a dish of ice I'm sure that you will quickly get into the swing of things. Water sports are readily available on most of the beaches,give it a try, you may end up jet ski-ing alongside Hugh Grant or Jemimah Khan, both of whom are regular visitors to the shores of Barbados. If you prefer something a little more sedate then why not book yourself a trip aboard a graceful catamaran, that way you can lay back and enjoy the sun or dance away your troubles on deck to the steady beat of those reggae tunes. All this whilst the crew keep you glass topped up with rum punch and your plates full of good traditional caribbean food, but don't eat too much as the highlight of the cruise is swimming with the huge, friendly turtles you even get to feed them, but watch they don't bite.

Bridgetown is a shoppers paradise especially if designer goods and diamonds are on your list, even better everything here is duty free so dont forget your disembarkation card as you will need this as proof that you are a holidaymaker to get your discount.

Eating Out

If eating out is part of your holiday then you will really be spoilt for choice in Barbados, theres something to suit every pocket with the famous fish fry in Oistins where you can watch the fish been brought in fresh from the harbour and cooked before your eyes, the fresh catch of the day, rice and peas with a side order is only about £3 per person, amazing value for money. If is fish is not for you then do not worry as the choice of food on offer is amazing and some of the best local fayre on the island can be sampled here, choose from spicy pork chops(caribbean style), dumplings(caribbean style),delicious fried chicken or sweet potatoe to mention but a few. Wash this down with the local firewater which is bought by the bottle from one of the small huts, the only way to accompany your hearty meal. If you want to dress up and make a night of it or for a special occasion why not give one of the many a la carte restaurants a try you will be amazed at the choice, Josephs' or Champers are highly recomended if the idea of sitting outdoors gazing over the caribbean sea is your ideal setting for a romantic meal whilst dining on gourmet food.

Places to Visit

A visit here is not complete without an evening out at Bajan Routes and Rhythm and watch the history of Barbados portrayed via a colourful display of music and dance, the stilt walkers have to be seen to be beleived. Sit back and relax whilst been served a your favourite tipple, drink as much as you want but leave some room for the hearty caribbean buffet where you can help yourself to the mouthwatering local cuisine. After the show you can hit the dance floor and sway to the beat of catchy reggae tunes before heading home. For a romantic evening then book a trip on the old Mississippi steamer where you will be entertained by limbo dancers, invited to dance to local bands and fed mouthwatering local fayre, all this whilst taking drifting along under the stars while taking in the stunning sunset.
